Jan 2015 DV — Sugarloaf Pk, Eureka Pk, Eureka Dunes

We just returned from a very successful short trip to Death Valley.  The first day, we did an epic 16 mile RT 11 hour 20 minute summit hike of Sugarloaf Peak.  We used my newly created Front Face Route to reach the top.  On the second day, we moved to the northern end of the park and hiked Eureka Peak from Jackass Flats in 9 hours as we covered 12.4 miles RT.  The views of the Eureka Sand Dunes and Last Chance Range from the summit were incredible.  On the final day, we did a sunrise morning hike of the Eureka Dunes, including spending a fair amount of time exploring and photographing the smaller back half of the dunes.  I really wanted to put some extra effort into giving special attention to the Eureka Dunes here on this site because it is such an amazing place to visit.  Brand new reports for these three destinations will be coming during the month of February.  Until then, you can enjoy the two new panoramic header images on the Main Page, as well as a few photos down below.  As the new reports are released, the destinations listed below will contain a link (as will the Main Page).

  • Sugarloaf Peak (coming soon)
  • Eureka Peak (coming by 2/18/15)
  • Eureka Sand Dunes (released 2/2/15)
